Spending the whole day sitting down in an office chair can contribute to poor posture. Proper posture can reduce muscle pains and make you look thinner and taller. There are yoga poses that, when done correctly, have the ability to reduce the tendency to slouch, and increase body awareness. The mountain pose requires you to stand in a perfectly vertical position. Your body should align to create a straight line. This pose may seem simple, but when done correctly can teach you discipline and a sense of alignment for your whole body.

The standing forward bend variation also has the ability to correct posture. Place your interlaced hands behind your back and extend your head towards your knee. Your hands should be stretched towards your ears. The cat-cow stretch is a series of poses that straighten the spine and lower back. This stretch will allow you to discover the natural neutral pose of your spine. Another yoga pose is the bridge pose. This is a milder variation of the backbend. Lie flat on your back with your arms on your sides, palms facing downwards. Slowly raise your hips leaving the weight on your shoulder. This pose strengthens the back to provide your spine with more support. Other yoga stretches can be done while you are sitting at home or in the office. Take a few minutes to stretch your shoulders and relieve stress by extending your hands up. Do some breathing exercises while you do this. Poses will help you improve posture.
